5. EVALUATION CRITERIA

A. Conceptual Adequacy:

• Adequacy to the theme;
• Adequacy of the title to the text;
• Originality and creativity;
• Presence of a central idea and secondary ideas with consistent argumentation (pertinence, sufficiency and relevance).

B. Continuity and Progression:

• Adequate distribution, ordering and sequence of ideas;
• Absence of contradictions;
• Absence of redundancy.

C. Vocabulary Adequacy in the English Language:

• Adequacy of the linguistic register;
• Properness and variety of vocabulary.

D. Formal Adequacy:

• Structuring of sentences;
• Cohesion and coherence.
• Sole Paragraph: The essays will be evaluated by a Judging Committee composed of qualified professionals, whose decisions are final.

6. APPLICATION OF EVALUATIONS

6.1. The essays will be held in person at Maple Bear Teresina on October 21st at 2:00 p.m.

7. RESULTS

7.1. The results will be announced during the Terry Fox Run event.

7.2. Maple Bear Teresina will publish the results on social media, on the school's website and in the local newspaper.

8. AWARDS

8.1. The awards ceremony will be held during the Terry Fox Run on November 9th, 2024.

8.2. The three best essays in each category will be awarded prizes:

Y5 and Y6 (5th and 6th grades)

• 1st Place – 30% SLM and Certificate
• 2nd Place – 20% SLM and Certificate
• 3rd Place – 10% SLM and Certificate

Y7 and Y8 (7th and 8th grades)

• 1st Place – 30% SLM and Certificate
• 2nd Place – 20% SLM and Certificate
• 3rd Place – 10% SLM and Certificate

9. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

9.1. Registration in the contest implies full acceptance of the terms of these rules, including the assignment of copyright of the essays to Maple Bear Teresina, free of charge.

9.2. The winning essays will be kept permanently safe.

9.3. The Judging Committee is sovereign and is responsible for resolving any omissions.

9.4. This contest is exclusively cultural, without raffle, payment, or connection to the acquisition of any good or service, in accordance with Law No. 5,768/71 and Decree No. 70,951/72, article 30.

9.5. Participants who commit any type of proven fraud will be summarily excluded.

9.7. Failure to comply with any rule of these rules may result in the disqualification of the essay and the respective participant.

9.8. In order for the Essay Contest to take place, there must be at least 10 entrants in each category.
